When You Rise Past It
Sometimes life has promises
That go unfulfilled for you
Things that it seems are
Given to everyone else
That you should have too
But don’t mistake it for
Cruelty at the end of it all
When you rise past it in the end
You grow stronger for all those you love
And even though you never forget the sting
The ascent you’ve reached will illuminate
And inspire those around you as you endure
It’s a strength that’s all your own
Even if you can’t tell you have it
But as we look upon you and see it shine
We want to imagine we can do the same
There’s beauty there you can’t imagine
It’s hard for you to see past life’s
Iniquity, but after all is said and done
The world would like to see you carry on
You may not yet know what to do
But the light remains and grows
And all I can do to make you see
Is write this all for you.
